When three tiny kittens—Splash, Spritz, and Squirt—arrived at IndyHumane in Indianapolis, Indiana, they were frail, filthy, and full of spunk. Likely fending for themselves outdoors before being rescued, they were in rough shape but clearly not short on determination. Foster volunteer Jennifer took them in without hesitation, feeding them small, frequent meals to soothe their upset stomachs and help them put on much-needed weight. “They were very skinny and dirty when I got them,” she recalled, but even then, their personalities began to shine through: Splash was tiny but full of sass, Spritz was a curious little ball of energy, and Squirt, the orange tabby, was an affectionate shadow, always purring in Jennifer’s lap

As the kittens grew stronger, they were introduced to Jennifer’s resident cats, Bear and Bodie—two nurturing felines with a soft spot for fosters. Bear and Bodie, once fosters themselves, took to the new trio immediately, stepping into gentle mentor roles. Squirt, the cuddle enthusiast, wasted no time showering Bear with headbutts and kisses. Meanwhile, Spritz and Splash followed their older housemates around, mimicking their movements and soaking in the lessons of feline etiquette. Grooming sessions, playful pounces, and long naps on the cat tree became part of their daily routine, all under the watchful, loving eyes of their adopted big brothers

In just seven weeks, the transformation was remarkable. From scrappy strays to confident young cats, Splash, Spritz, and Squirt blossomed in their foster home, thanks in no small part to their patient caregivers—both human and feline. Bear and Bodie guided them every step of the way, from learning to play gently to finding the coziest nap spots. When it was time to say goodbye, the once-scrawny kittens left for their forever homes, healthy and thriving. Jennifer shared, “It’s so crazy how much the babies have changed. I’m going to miss being judged by these three!” With full hearts and happy memories, Bear and Bodie are now ready to welcome the next batch of fosters needing a little love and a lot of licks
