When a shy, hissy orange kitten arrived at IndyHumane in Indianapolis, he was scared and unsure of the world. That all changed when Jennifer, a foster volunteer with New Kittens on the Block, took him in and named him Butterball. At first, he buried himself in blankets and flinched at new sounds, clearly overwhelmed. But with soft beds, good food, and gentle affection, Butterball slowly began to trust—and even purred a few times for his new foster mom.

It didn’t take long for Butterball’s personality to burst through. Within days, the once-nervous kitten was rolling in his blankets, playing with toys, and following Jennifer around. And then came his signature move: the tiny scream. Whether it was food, cuddles, or just attention, Butterball found his voice—and wasn’t shy about using it. “He has as many opinions as he has teeth,” Jennifer joked, describing his hilarious habit of dramatically meowing for no reason at all.

Now a confident, cuddly, and slightly dramatic little tabby, Butterball continues to thrive in foster care. He’s got a milk goatee, a stash of toys, and a future full of promise. Once his health is fully in check, he’ll be introduced to the resident cats and continue charming everyone in his path. From timid beginnings to full-blown diva, Butterball proves that with a little love and patience, even the tiniest kittens can find their roar—and use it nonstop.
