At just a few weeks old, a tabby kitten named Baklava was already mastering the art of grabbing hearts. Rescued alongside her brother, Cobbler, the pair were taken in by Pets In Need in Redwood City, California, where foster volunteers helped them grow into lively, affectionate kittens. When they reached nine weeks old, both were placed at the adoption center to await their forever homes. Cobbler was quickly adopted, but little Baklava remained, doing everything she could to charm passersby—from the comfort of her cozy condo, she began her now-famous “window washing” routine, waving her tiny paws up and down the glass every time someone walked by.

Her signature move has become a favorite among volunteers and visitors alike. With every paw press and wave, Baklava is clearly saying, “Pick me!”—yet she continues to wait patiently for the right family to notice her. Despite her adorable antics and affectionate personality, the playful tabby has been at the shelter for over three weeks. Volunteers gush about her loving spirit and gentle sass. Whether she’s melting into a lap for belly rubs, clutching a blanket in her paws, or licking a human hand in affection, Baklava makes it known that her happiest place is by someone’s side.

Baklava is a delightful mix of energy and sweetness—equal parts zoomies and snuggles. Her curiosity leads her to explore every inch of the playroom, but when the fun winds down, she’s quick to curl up in someone’s arms. She’s got big expressive eyes, tufted ears, and a quirky little snout that makes her even more memorable. As volunteer WJ Lin put it, “She’s done with shelter life and is ready to come home now.” Baklava isn’t just looking for a place to live—she’s waiting for someone to notice her waving from behind the glass and give her the loving forever home she’s been dreaming of.
