Vishwash Kumar Ramesh was the sole survivor of the Air India flight AI171 crash yesterday
The sole survivor of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad was sitting in the same seat as the survivor of a similarly tragic plane crash.
The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick Airport crashed on the perimeters of Ahmedabad Airport in western India.
The plane was carrying 242 people on board including 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national.
Local police had originally said that it appeared there were no survivors from the crash, however, one person has been confirmed to have miraculously survived the crash.
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh was in seat 11a on the flight that crashed yesterday.
The 40-year-old Brit said: “When I saw the exit, I thought I could come out. I tried, and I did,” Ramesh said, per Metro.
Since the incident, another plane crash survivor has spoken out, claiming he was sitting in the same seat as Ramesh.
Ruangsak Loychusak (47) had also been sitting in seat 11a during the Thai Airways flight TG261, which killed 101 passengers back in 1998 and injured a further 45.
The Thai Airways flight crashed into a swamp during landing.
Loychusak told the press yesterday he experienced ‘goosebumps’ after learning that the sole survivor of the Air India flight had also been sitting in seat 11a.
“The lone survivor of the plane crash in India was sitting in the same seat number as me, 11A,” he began, per the Daily Mail
I want to offer my condolences to all those who lost loved ones in the tragedy.”
Loychusak went on to say that surviving the fatal crash has given him a “second life.”
“I had difficulty flying for 10 years after the crash,” Loychusak admitted.
“I would struggle to breathe, even though the air circulation was normal. I avoided speaking to anyone and always stared outside the window, blocking anyone from closing it to maintain my sense of safety.
“If I saw dark clouds or a rainstorm outside, I would feel terrible, like I was in hell. I can still remember the sounds, smells, and even the taste of the water in the swamp the plane crashed into.
“For a long time, I would keep the feelings to myself.”
The sole survivor of the Air India crash has spoken to the press today.
Reflecting on the incident, Ramesh said: “When the flight took off, within five to 10 seconds it felt like it was stuck in the air. Suddenly, the lights started flickering – green and white – then the plane rammed into some establishment that was there.
‘When I saw the exit, I thought I could come out. I tried, and I did. Maybe the people who were on the other side of the plane weren’t able to,’ per Metro.
